I hope you will enjoy exploring its pages. Let me know if you do!  I'd love to hear from you.

Mary Mackie is the author of over seventy books in various genres of fiction and non-fiction, original English-language hardbacks from publishers in both the UK and the USA, with numerous subsidiary editions plus translations into some twenty foreign languages. Several of her titles are now available as eBooks via with more to come.

I've been remiss at updating this site since my husband died in August 2014. Hope to keep it up from now on. Other writers will understand how horrible a 'dry' period can be, when your creative self is dormant and ideas which have been bubbling freely all your life suddenly stop, leaving you feeling as if you have lost part of yourself. Pleased to say that my own ideas have recently woken up again, mainly thanks to some friends who asked me to do the text for a short book of local historical interest, based in the First World War. They had already done a lot of research and have some good pictures, so I agreed and found myself absorbed and delving deeper for more info. This text is only 20,000 words but it will have a lot of pictures which I will shortly be inserting ready for publication. We plan to bring the book out to coincide with 100 years since the end of WW1. Our book centres on a few months in 1915. It is, however, a marvellous story that begins in the Boer War and segues into the SAS. Working title: HUNSTANTON'S HIGHLAND HEROES.

No surprise then, that my imagination took fire and I am now into chapter six of a historical family saga which will make use of this true story as a background. I am thrilled to be writing again. Watch this space for more details.

Proposed cover of book

My updated history of RAF Nurses, which includes three new chapters bringing the story up to 2014, is still available in the shops and as an eBook. This is another amazing story covering nearly a century of activity for the nurses of the Royal Air Force. 2018 will, of course, see the centenary of both the RAF and its Nursing Service.

The publishers have retitled the original SKY WARDS to become WARDS IN THE SKY, the RAF's remarkable nursing service.

Kindle Books: I have launched CHRIS, see Books, under the banner of our own publishing company, Morningside Publishers. CHRIS is my late husband's personal story and has been selling amazingly well in paperback locally, as well as in electronic form. To connect with my Kindle page go to Mary Mackie at Amazon

Other Morningside titles are two books of short stories, one being 'stories with a smile'  (titled LOVE & OTHER FUNNY THINGS), the other is 'stories with a shiver' (A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT).  For a sample of the latter, have a read of the Story here. They are both available from me at five pounds each plus p&p, see Contact page.

Mary lives on the coast of eastern England, in beautiful Norfolk, not far from Sandringham House. She and her late husband (who died in August 2014) have two brilliant and successful sons, two charming daughters-in-law and four wonderful grandchildren. (Are you reading this, family?) Besides full-length books, Mary has published many short stories and articles and has written and produced several one-act plays. She has also appeared in several major productions presented by the Princess Players of Hunstanton, Norfolk, and hopes to do more with them. A highlight was playing millionairess Clairee in 'Steel Magnolias' , for which Mary received rave reviews.

She is the founder of four separate writing groups and has taught several well-filled classes in Creative Writing.  She is also current Chair of Hunstanton U3A (see their website for more).

Wearing her public-speaker hat, Mary has travelled far and wide to give Talks illustrated by PowerPoint Presentations which she designs herself - another enjoyable hobby. Talk subjects cover a wide range from the ups and downs of her writing career to the true-life history researched for her non-fiction.
